Copperas Cove staff open public hearing on proposed FY 2026–27 budget; adoption scheduled Aug. 18

The special Copperas Cove City Council meeting opened a public hearing on the city's proposed fiscal year 2026'27 budget and plan of municipal services at 5:30 p.m. on July 30. Arianna Beckman, the city's director of budget, told the council the proposed budget was filed with the city secretary on June 16 and that notice was published in the newspaper, on the city website and Channel 10 as required by state law.
"State law, requires that the city holds a public hearing on the proposed fiscal year 2627 budget and plan of municipal services," Beckman said as she described the purpose and the schedule. She reminded the council that the adoption of the budget is scheduled for Aug. 18 at 6 p.m. and that the hearing gives the public an opportunity to comment before adoption. The mayor opened the hearing and, after asking if anyone wished to speak, closed it at roughly 5:32 p.m. because no public comments were offered.
Beckman said the presentation is intended to provide council the information it needs before council formally considers the tax rate and budget on Aug. 4 and Aug. 18. The presentation also reviewed several proposed budget changes (discussed separately by staff), including a proposed one-time city hall renovation cost of $600,000 to be funded from fund balance.
