Copperas Cove opens public hearing on proposed FY2026–27 budget; no public speakers

The City of Copperas Cove opened a statutorily required public hearing on the proposed fiscal year 2026–27 budget at 5:30 p.m. on July 30. Arianna Beckman, the city’s director of budget, told the council the budget was filed with the city secretary on June 16 and that notices were published in the newspaper and on the city’s website.
"State law requires that the city holds a public hearing on the proposed fiscal year 26–27 budget and plan of municipal services," Beckman said during the presentation. She told council adoption of the budget is scheduled for Aug. 18 and that council will vote on a proposed property-tax rate at a separate meeting on Aug. 4.
Beckman walked the council through required calculations and the timetable under Texas truth-in-taxation law and then asked whether any members of the public wished to speak. No members of the public offered comment and the mayor closed the public hearing at about 5:32 p.m.
Staff told the council they will present options and allow direction on specific budget changes during the council’s upcoming agenda items and meetings leading up to the scheduled adoption.
