Emergency management director reports grant uncertainty, Starlink arrival and mapping grant opportunity

Melching said reimbursement for the emergency management (EM) position was lower than expected but savings from a partial-year vacancy helped the county. She reported the Homeland Security grant program that funds the EM operations center, training and hazmat/cyber activities is currently on hold. Melching also noted food-assistance funding being received covering 12 counties (listed in the minutes as $200,000.00), arrival of Starlink satellite internet equipment for emergency use, a possible $25,000 mapping grant, and that the county hazard mitigation plan is due Feb. 10, 2027.
