Langley council to take public comment after council discussion on agenda items
Summary
The council voted 3–0 to change its practice so public comment on agenda items will be taken after the council has held its discussion. The motion was made by Councilmember Gail Fleming and seconded by Councilmember Harolynne Bobis.
The Langley City Council approved a procedural change to the public comment process, moving public comment on any agenda item to after the council’s internal discussion on that item.
Councilmember Gail Fleming introduced the motion and Councilmember Harolynne Bobis seconded. After a brief council discussion about the public comment process, the motion passed 3–0; Councilmembers Chris Carlson and Rhonda Salerno were absent.
Fleming framed the motion as an adjustment to when members hear public input relative to their discussion; the council did not attach additional limits or time changes to the public comment item in the recorded motion. The change will take effect as a council practice; the clerk’s office will reflect the procedural change in future meeting notices where appropriate.
