Residents urge Fayston Selectboard to press State to repeal Act 181

A group of residents asked the Fayston Selectboard on April 28 to send a letter to the State asking that Act 181 be repealed, saying the statute limits towns’ ability to veto or override state regulations and could supersede existing town plans and local zoning. The residents offered to draft a letter for the board’s review; the board agreed to warn a special meeting to take public comment and to participate in a May 14 Mad River Valley Planning District (MRVPD) meeting on the issue.
"A recent development states that municipalities will not have the ability to veto or override State level regulations and may in fact override existing Town Plans and local zoning," the residents told the board. Selectboard members said they would review the draft letter and coordinate next steps at the warned special meeting and at the MRVPD session. The Selectboard did not take a formal vote to send a letter at the April 28 meeting.
