The Pojoaque Valley School Board voted to add an NMAA‑sanctioned golf program at Pojoaque Valley High School for the 2026–27 school year following a presentation from Sean Jimenez and comments from a student who had requested the program.
Jimenez told the board his Google form gauged about 25 students (rising 8th through 12th graders) and that 13 respondents were female, which he said could help increase female athletic participation. He outlined estimated first‑year costs including coaching stipends (head coach $4,000–$6,000; assistant $2,400–$3,500), tournament entry fees, uniforms, practice green fees and initial equipment assistance for students who cannot afford clubs. Jimenez said he had tentative partnerships with local courses to offset green fees and practice costs.
Board members expressed broad support but pressed for guarantees on equitable access and transportation. Several members emphasized the need to provide equipment assistance so students without means are not excluded. The board approved the motion to add the program and directed staff to conduct a formal in‑person student survey at the start of the year, pursue local sponsorships, and present a formal budget recommendation.
