Board approves 25 hours overtime for county treasurer amid heavy workload

Mackinac County commissioners voted July 9 to allow Treasurer Tina Massey up to 25 hours of overtime as the office manages increased workload related to property visits and other duties.
Massey told the board she "can't pinpoint the exact reason for needing over time but the office has been very busy," and said auditors recommended the county adopt a uniform grant policy with one central location to manage grants. Commissioner John Kling said a uniform policy is important and urged reactivating the committee to update policy manuals. The motion to permit up to 25 overtime hours carried on a roll call vote: Kling, Kimberling, Patrick and Schroeder voting yes; St. Louis-Scott voting no.
The overtime approved was smaller than Massey's initial request of 50 hours; the board indicated openness to a reduced amount given current workloads. Commissioners also discussed giving staff clearer guidance on grants after the auditors' recommendation.
The board took no additional action on a formal grant policy; Kling said he wants the committee reconvened to draft updates for review at a future meeting.
