Staff told the board Aug. 14 that the skate park will be closed starting Sept. 1 for an artist to complete a mural; equipment and materials will be stored on-site in a temporary pod and trails and grass areas will remain accessible. The finance/parks staff confirmed the city has a Sherwin-Williams account and support for paint materials.
The board also discussed a parks member's request to protect native milkweed and other plantings at Willingham Knowles to avoid mowing that area. Staff reported they met with a resident interested in constructing small pedestrian bridges; the volunteer is gathering material estimates from 84 Lumber. Additionally, staff noted an RFP is posted to resurface basketball courts at Jefferson Memorial and Epids Run, expected to be completed in the next four months.
The board asked staff to follow up on volunteer coordination for mural work and to consider putting ground-penetrating radar on the next agenda to investigate subsurface causes for tennis-court cracking prior to resurfacing.
