Douglas said FMAC recommended the town authorize the town manager to pay “not to exceed amount of $700 for a volunteer appreciation lunch at Cantina Verdi on Monday, August 26 from noon to 3PM.” Trustees discussed an alternate community potluck and a Saturday evening focused on the 19 beneficiaries, then moved to pursue an appreciation event with an adjusted alternative date (Aug. 24) and later confirmed a funding cap of up to $700. The motion carried on a voice vote.
Trustees and committee members framed the expenditure as modest compared with the value of volunteer labor: FMAC’s presentation estimated Team Rubicon’s contributed labor at about $25,000 and noted the Kirkpatrick Family Fund granted $65,000 last year to support mitigation work. Trustee comments emphasized both saying thanks and inviting beneficiaries when feasible. Clerk/manager staff were directed to collect beneficiary contact details and volunteer counts to finalize logistics.
