Council tables MOU for school resource officer; police to provide SRO under prior agreement

Council reviewed a proposed MOU between the Rangely School District and the Rangely Police Department to fund a school resource officer for the 2025-26 academic year. The police representative said the city's attorney and Officer Kilduff had reviewed the draft and that, regardless of a signed MOU, the department planned to provide SRO coverage under the previous agreement at the start of the school year.
The police representative said the school district had not yet received its copy for review and that the intent was for the district to review legal terms before signing. "Our intent, regardless of not having that signed, is we're gonna have Officer Kilduff in the schools tomorrow," the officer's representative said, noting scheduling arrangements had been made to provide day-one coverage. Council members agreed the document should be provided to the school district for review and moved to table the item; the motion carried.
Council directed staff to transmit the MOU to district administrators for their legal review and to return the item to the council once the district had taken action. No funding change or final contractual authorization occurred at the meeting.
