Electric City Council keeps council positions unpaid, approves budget transfer and new fireworks rules

At its April 14 meeting the Electric City Council voted to continue paying councilmembers no compensation, approved a $20,000 transfer to the Fire Department fund, and adopted a revised fireworks ordinance (Ordinance 617-2026). Several other operational items including AED purchases and utility fee changes were approved.
The Electric City Council met April 14, 2026, and voted to continue requiring councilmembers to receive no compensation for their service. The motion to maintain "no compensation to be a council member" passed by unanimous consent (M/S Buche/Hoffman). The council recorded its roll call at the start of the meeting with Mayor Blake Martin and councilmembers Robbin Boyce, Brian Buche, Matt Gilbert, Joe Higgs and Cheryl Hoffman present.
Council also approved Ordinance 618-2026 to move $20,000 from the General Fund (Fund #001) to the Fire Department fund (Fund #021) to bolster department resources. The budget amendment passed unanimously (mover recorded as Gilbert; second recorded as Higgs). Other operational approvals included purchasing automated external defibrillators and increasing the departmental spending cap for that purchase to $5,000.
