Board selects Johnny's Pour House to operate Lake Andrea Beer Garden for 2025 season
Summary
After the sudden death of the incumbent operator, trustees voted to award a one‑year license to Johnny's Pour House (John Zimba) to operate the Lake Andrea Beer Garden beginning July 1, 2025 if liquor‑license issues are resolved; staff recommended caution and noted the existing Boxcar Brews liquor license runs to June 30.

Trustees voted to approve John Zimba of Johnny's Pour House as the village's preferred operator for the Lake Andrea Beer Garden for a one‑year term, giving staff authority to negotiate a license and contract. The decision follows the recent death of the incumbent operator (Boxcar Brews owner Mike Connell), which complicated comparison of proposals and raised questions about liquor‑license continuity.
John Zimba told the board he would be willing to begin operations on July 1 if licensing permits and described a program of family events, weekly entertainment and a revenue‑share proposal. As Zimba described the financial terms: "We propose paying the village a base pay during peak season of 2,000 a month or 10% of net profit, whichever amount is higher." Staff cautioned that Boxcar Brews' existing liquor license remains valid through June 30 and advised the board to proceed with caution on licensing matters; the motion to select Johnny's Pour House was moved, seconded and carried by voice vote.
