Manager Mike Luce told trustees that during backwashing the lift station outside the water treatment plant is not pumping backwash to the sanitary sewer. Staff pulled and tested the pumps and found they appeared to be operable; additional investigation is required to determine why the pumps are not moving the backwash. Luce said two quotes were received: CSM Mechanical submitted the timeliest and most economical quote for mechanical repairs (quoted at $26,023) and a second, worst‑case locating and repair quote to find a blockage was $23,475.
Director Scott Hable described pipeline constraints that make camera inspection difficult (1500‑foot run lacking manholes) and noted staff are weighing options including boring a line to a different manhole north of the plant. Luce said staff will return with a recommendation and that the repair work and locating effort would be brought back to the Board at a future meeting.
Luce also said he has been coordinating with MDOT, the Livingston County Road Commission and developers on design changes tied to MDOT’s M‑59 paving timeline (expected 2027) and briefly discussed possible gateway signage on M‑59, including options and vendor quotes.
