District staff presented an update to Policy JOA (directory information) prompted by a state law change effective Aug. 1 that limits what student directory information the district may release to outside parties.
The presenter said the draft policy removes some items the district previously provided and clarifies that, while the district cannot release certain student details, parents who opt in may provide information directly to parent clubs. "The district needs the information, but we can't share it," the presenter said, describing the practical effect for parent groups that update directories. Several board members asked for edits to confusing language in the exclusions section and the board agreed to return the policy with edits for action at the Oct. 13 meeting.
No formal vote was taken; the board opted to gather edits and review a revised draft at the next meeting.
