Superintendent: Smart Start survey shows high family satisfaction; outdoor school fully funded this year

Shields said the district received feedback from 61 parents for the survey (down from 139 the prior year) and that among respondents 30% had a 504 plan and 70% had a student with an IEP; she added that 95% of responding parents reported that a teacher made their child feel welcome and supported. On outdoor school, Shields said the district and its provider negotiated costs so the program will not require any payment from families this year: "So with the change, we will not have to charge any money to any students." Shields noted that funding this year is a one-year arrangement and future funding will need to be addressed in the district budget.
Board members asked for baseline and measurement clarifications for grant goals and graduation-rate targets; staff confirmed the baseline year as 2023–24 and said goal-setting and reporting will continue.
