Resident urges district to renegotiate cell-tower lease; board agrees to review agreements

A resident, Ben Adams, told the Lake Oswego SD 7J board he lives roughly 100 feet from a newly installed cell tower near Lakeridge High School and urged the district to negotiate with Crown Castle and Verizon to remove the facility or buy out the lease. “This is illegal. This is a business transaction,” Adams said, asking the board to use its business skills to find a way out.
Directors responded by agreeing to add a broader review of the district’s practice of entering agreements with cell-service providers to a future board meeting agenda. Director Brian Bills and others said the review should consider health and safety findings, current regulations and the district’s responsibilities. Director Waller asked that the district sponsor an independent reading at the complainant’s location so the board can better evaluate any claims about emissions or siting; trustees asked administration to place the item on the Sept. 8 agenda.
