An ad hoc committee that surveyed neighborhood parks told the Community Services Commission that Madrid 4 Park’s continuous “No parking” curb is unusual compared with other city parks and creates safety and convenience issues for families. Commissioner Thornton summarized her field observations, saying the curb layout “restrict[ed] direct access to the park” and describing parents having to manage children crossing the street.
Commissioner Conroy echoed the safety concerns, saying it would be inconvenient for families forced to park farther away and that removal of the restriction would reduce risks. After discussion about enforcement, curb painting and traffic-engineer review, a motion to recommend removing the parking restriction and forward the item to the Planning & Transportation Commission was made and seconded; the motion passed unanimously. The recommendation will now be considered by the Planning & Transportation Commission as the next procedural step.
