Committee approves 35% MWBE goal for county low-voltage and fiber cabling contracts

The Shelby County Goal Setting Committee voted to set a 35% MWBE participation goal for planned multi-vendor low-voltage and fiber-optic cabling contracts supporting county network infrastructure.
Dennis Boyce, Information Technology Services, told the committee the multi-vendor contract would cover design, installation and maintenance of low-voltage cabling systems across Shelby County government to support business continuity, renovations and new construction. Chair Wilman noted the ELC database showed four minority firms and two WBEs among 17 eligible firms, and recommended the 35% goal based on those certified vendors.
Chief Perry recused from the discussion and vote because the item related to her department. Administrators Gloucester and Commissioner Avant recorded aye votes and the chair declared the recommendation approved; staff will route the approved goal to purchasing for procurement steps. Boyce said the county anticipates ongoing maintenance and occasional expansion needs that will be procured through these multi-vendor arrangements.
