The Shelby County Goal Setting Committee approved recommended participation goals of 27% for minority-owned businesses and 5% for women-owned businesses for the construction contract for the proposed Fire Station 62.
Chair Wilman presented the ELC matrices used to calculate goals and said the targets were derived by dividing certified MBE/WBE firm totals by the overall firm totals and applying those percentages to the project’s estimated construction value. Tony Wright, Support Services, described the project as “to be designed and built as approximately a 38,000 square foot superstation” with four apparatus bays and support spaces and confirmed the site at 8870 Shelby Drive near Cindy Parlow Avenue would replace the current nearby station.
Wilman noted the MWBE program and ordinance require joint ventures for construction projects exceeding $5,000,000, and the committee recorded the motion to adopt the 27%/5% goals after brief discussion about funding. Wright said the project will be funded with enterprise funds collected through the Shelby County Fire Department. Administrator Gloucester moved to adopt the goals; a second was recorded and the chair declared the item approved after verbally recorded ayes.
The committee asked staff to gather signatures on the approval form and route it to purchasing so procurement can proceed. Wilman also noted the ELC will refresh vendor matrices every six months to reflect new certifications and that quarterly spend reports are posted to the county website.
