Lakeridge student says student store builds job skills and funds school activities

Beatrice Madden, a senior at Lakeridge High School who serves as ASB senior class officer and DECA president, presented on the school's student store and how it supports hands-on learning.
"The store provides hands on experience with things like customer service, handling money, inventory management, and interacting with peers," Madden said. She told the board the store offers different shifts — before school, contact time and lunch — and also supports Pathways Life Skills students who practice employability tasks during class.
Madden said proceeds from the store help fund field trips, clubs and non‑consumable items that benefit all students. Board members and student reps asked about hours and plans for next year; Madden said she plans to study business after graduation and hopes to apply sustainable product design to future work.
The presentation highlighted the role of school-run enterprises in career pathways and inclusive student programming.
