District staff asked the board to postpone the social-studies curriculum adoption for a year, citing financial constraints and a plan to run a less expensive adoption process next fall. The administration said the state allows a two-year delay and that staff intend to use instructional specialists and in-school review rather than the more costly model of pulling teachers out for review.
Director Wallin moved to adopt the administration recommendation to delay the adoption and the board voted to approve the postponement. Staff said existing materials will remain in use until a new adoption is completed and that the revised approach should reduce costs associated with release time and substitutes.
