Superintendent proposes school-year calendar tweaks to end June earlier; board to seek community feedback

Shealy framed the recommendation as a compromise to reduce predictable absenteeism during the last week of the school year and preserve instructional time. “So by adding those 2 days back in as student days, we're able to end on June 17 instead of 21st,” Shealy said. Board members discussed state professional development schedules, the practicalities of the October 9 statewide PD day, and how compacting the year could affect families.
The superintendent said the draft will be posted for community feedback and the board aims to take action at the next meeting after public input.
