Board approves Iowa DOT preconstruction and detour agreements for Highway 62 project

County engineer Jaden Shackle briefed the board on two Iowa DOT agreements related to next summer's Highway 62 work: a preconstruction agreement for resurfacing (Andrew to Bellevue) and a detour agreement to cover a DOT bridge-deck replacement that will close the highway.
Shackle said the preconstruction agreement follows previous practice: paved aprons on side roads are included, but any apron work beyond 10 feet from the primary pavement edge would be a county cost. "As part of the project ... any apron work beyond the 10 feet from edge of primary road pavement ... will be at our cost," Shackle said. The DOT letting is scheduled for October with work next summer; supervisors approved authorizing the chair and auditor to sign both agreements. On the detour, Shackle described the route and said DOT will perform a pre-inspection of the detour roads and repair damage caused by the detour at DOT expense. The motions to approve both agreements carried unanimously.
