A mentor and student leaders from district robotics programs asked the board to ensure students and mentors have a seat at the table for design of a future robotics facility funded by the district bond.
Angel, a mentor, said the district's tech challenge and FTC teams have grown and require more storage, dedicated machine-shop space, better HVAC, improved lighting and room for classrooms or quiet areas. “I really want to make sure that the tech challenge teams have someone on that design committee that can speak to the needs of the students,” the mentor said, urging student representation during the design phase.
Board members acknowledged the request and said staff expects design work to begin in the summer; the district noted a phased timeline tied to other facilities work and said it will aim to include student voices in the process.
