Jerry Arvid presented a recommended update to policy KGB that would add a provision prohibiting fireworks on school district property. Arvid said the proposal grew out of neighbor conversations during bond engagement and noted concerns about dry vegetation, tree canopy and safety around athletic fields.
Board members discussed whether the language should be broader or include additional prohibited items (police and district nurse to be consulted) and whether signage during holiday periods should be deployed. Arvid said putting the language in policy would provide grounds for signage and for police to enforce the prohibition when complaints arise. The proposal was presented as a first reading and will return for further discussion.
