Animal services recounts pet evacuations, reunification and sheltering during wildfire response

A city animal services representative (recorded as Bryn) told the council the department set up a command post and assisted residents to evacuate animals and reunify pets with owners.
"All in all, we evacuated 8 dogs, 5 cats, 3 small animals, and a bird," Bryn said, and staff completed 52 service requests between the start of the incident and late evening. The team also brought animals to the Bell Tower Red Cross shelter and transferred adoptable dogs to a San Clemente–area shelter to create capacity for further evacuations. Bryn described door‑to‑door patrols and assistance retrieving hiding pets from homes when owners could not access properties.
Council members thanked animal services and partnered sheriff and volunteer teams for coordination during operations. Staff said they have two animal control teams patrolling Robinson Ranch and Dove Canyon and will continue to receive calls.
