Council overrules objections, orders abatement for noncompliant residential parcels

City staff presented the annual weed-abatement report and recommended the council overrule objections and order abatement for parcels under 1 acre that remained noncompliant. Public Services manager Corey Gagne (introduced in the staff presentation) said notices were mailed to designated properties and that 20 of 47 properties had been listed, with two still noncompliant.
A resident, Victoria Bruno, spoke in the public hearing asking for additional protections for native plant communities; staff and councilmembers clarified that the parcels under consideration are private residential properties, not wildlands, and that staff coordinates with OCFA and uses an environmental biologist to avoid harming native species. The council moved, seconded and voted to overrule objections and order abatement; the motion passed by voice vote with three members present.
