Several speakers at the April 15 meeting urged the council to act on declining lake levels and related infrastructure needs. Norman Myrick, speaking as part of the Conservancy Committee, said the Department of Ecology will attend the committee’s upcoming meeting and urged Council to make decisions about the lake; he said he expects DOE may declare an emergency status. Councilmember Gorman confirmed the Conservancy Committee will meet Friday at 1:15 p.m. at the Senior Center to discuss taking water from the lake and current drought conditions.
Council and members of the public also raised infrastructure concerns tied to lake management: Myrick urged replacement of the water treatment plant, and Public Works Director Olson reported operational items at the plant including a sludge pump that 'will need to be replaced and a used one was found for only $6,000.00.' The minutes do not record any formal action to allocate funding for replacement equipment at this meeting.
