Mission Viejo honors Challenger Little League team for trip to Williamsport

The City of Mission Viejo recognized the District 68 Challenger team for participating in the 2024 Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania during the Sept. 24 council meeting. Mayor read commendations for individual players including Maverick Brulette and presented certificates to district administrator Ezio Petrella and assistant district administrator Rod Hurt.
Ezio Petrella thanked the city for its support and described the Challenger program as volunteer-run and open to all players, noting that there are no player fees for those participants. Rod Hurt, assistant district administrator, spoke about his two-decade involvement with the program and presented a Williamsport souvenir map to the mayor.
Representatives from Congresswoman Young Kim’s office, Assemblymember Kate Sanchez’s office and Orange County Supervisor Don Wagner’s office attended and offered congratulations. "Your hard work, your love for baseball, and your dedication is truly to be commended," said a representative from Congresswoman Young Kim’s office.
The council invited elected representatives and coaches to take photos with the team and placed the honorees’ names on the city’s electronic sign board.
