The City Council approved a consent-calendar purchase of a Ford Lightning all-electric pickup truck for the Public Services Department on Sept. 24. Staff recommended authorizing a purchase order to Theodore Robins Ford for $60,241.68 and amending the operating budget to allow the purchase, using construction and demolition waste diversion forfeiture deposits.
A staff presenter said the vehicle is a good application for the department’s driving patterns and that it will be the city’s first electric pickup truck. Councilmember Goodell moved the item and the motion passed with four yes votes; Councilmember Vasquez was absent. Councilmembers asked whether charging capacity exists; staff said existing charging capacity is sufficient and that more charging infrastructure will be available when the public services facility returns to the courtyard.
The council approved the purchase as part of the consent calendar, and staff will complete the procurement and budget amendment as authorized by the resolution.
