Officials tout Birch Creek field renovation, flag splash pad and restroom needs

City staff summarized parks work completed in 2025 and needs for 2026. John Anderson said the Birch Creek Field renovation was completed for about $365,000 and the city installed monuments along the Heritage Trail and continued restroom improvements citywide. He said the Birch Creek fields should bring substantial spring use from lacrosse, soccer and other leagues.
Anderson also warned of equipment failures needing near‑term action. “The splash pad controller is black and no longer works. It fell out on us about August 20, so it is no longer functional at this point,” he said, and recommended short‑term portable restrooms and longer‑term resurfacing as part of grant applications. The administration said two ramp/grant applications were submitted for playground surfacing and splash‑pad overhauls; the city’s share was described in the presentation and will be clarified in budget materials.
