Ambulance fund posts strong revenue; council credits improved billing and collections

Peter (staff) highlighted that ambulance revenues for the year ‘‘came in at just over $1,000,000’’ and that the net of the ambulance fund is roughly $242,000. He said the results reflect recent collection changes and operational adjustments.
Matt (council member) and others credited the switch to Gold Cross for billing and collections improvements and praised staff for a multi-year effort to stabilize the fund. ‘‘We were bleeding profusely for several years and I think the biggest change ... was the billing group that we've gone to with Gold Cross,’’ Matt said, noting the administration’s and chief’s role in improving performance.
Councilors asked about collection rates and write-offs; staff said the city currently collects about 37 percent of amounts billed, and most remaining variance is contractual write-offs. Staff indicated they will provide a more comprehensive CDRA (city center reinvestment area) and ambulance update in a future meeting packet.
