Council holds closed-session update on police chief search; interim chief receives command-executive award

Earlier in the meeting, the council presented a command-executive certification award to Acting Chief Sarah Labranha. Dana Schroeder, executive director of the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police, introduced Charlottesville Chief Mike Kochis (present as a board member), who praised Labranha's completion of the certification process. Upon reconvening, council members certified under code that only lawfully exempted matters were discussed in closed session.
