An update from Ed Greer identified additional issues at the old jail worksite, including concerns with the smoke evacuation system and asbestos, and recommended pausing remaining work in the old jail while continuing courthouse renovations.
Following discussion, the commission voted unanimously to complete the jail contract except for the evacuation work in the detention area of the old jail and to regroup with a new architect and contractor to address the outstanding design and bidding concerns. The motion directs staff to pause the specified portion of work, secure new architectural services and rebid remaining work where necessary.
The action was recorded as a formal resolution and passed by roll call 12-0. County staff will follow up with a procurement and rebid plan and report back to the commission.
