The police chief presented the public safety report for June 1–July 5 and highlighted operational activity and emergency-preparedness work. The chief said the department recorded about 1,500 total events during the period, with notable increases in community policing events and foot patrols.
The chief also recounted staff work during the recent storm and parade and emphasized the importance of updating the emergency operations plan and conducting drills. "We had a parade that morning... Sergeant Kirchner was out early for, and he remained working well into the evening. I believe he'd worked a 16 hour day that day to ensure his squad members had backup and support while they dealt with the various issues," the chief said. He encouraged more residents and downtown businesses to sign up for the Nixle mass‑notification system and announced National Night Out on Aug. 4 and a junior CSI Academy on Sept. 20.
