Committee asks staff for detailed estimates, will report to full council before July deadline

Committee members generally expressed reluctance to adopt exemption changes this year and asked staff to prepare further analysis rather than move immediately.
One committee member said, "So I am personally not in favor of making any adjustments this year, simply because of our current financial situation," and Chair Chris Beard agreed that the council should wait until after the November election and have staff's estimates available for the full council. Beard said he would like the estimates made available to the full council for consideration even though he will no longer serve on council when a final vote occurs.
Staff will bring preliminary estimated-value reports to the City Council at a June 6 special work session and return to the committee with detailed scenario analyses so the governing body can make any decision before the July 1 deadline if it chooses to proceed.
