Library director warns federal funding cuts could slow future e-book additions

Kristin Phillips told the council that digital-circulation growth in FY25 could be threatened by reductions in federal funding that flow through the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (TSLAC).
"We are gonna see a change in that because of the federal funding level because most of our ebooks come through TSLAC, which is funded by IMLS, which as everyone knows is having, has been cut off for funding," Phillips said. She added that TSLAC is seeking outside sponsors and donors so the library can maintain certain services, such as ordering braille books or other specialized formats that smaller libraries cannot acquire on their own.
Phillips urged continued pursuit of matching grants and local sponsorships to offset potential reductions in state and federal support.
