The Oconto County Highway Committee voted March 5 to forward a Work Zone Awareness Week resolution to the county board for approval.
Committee members reviewed statewide 2025 figures presented with the resolution: 2,065 crashes in work zones, 620 injuries and seven fatalities; Oconto County reported one work-zone crash in 2025. The resolution, shown on screen during the meeting, also reminded drivers that it is illegal to use a handheld cellphone while driving through a work zone.
Joel Lavarda moved—and Bob Wolf seconded—the motion to send the resolution to the county board; the motion was voted and carried. The committee did not record a roll-call tally in the minutes.
