Grand Prairie Library launches 'Eighties' summer reading club May 30; Beanstack app to track progress

The Grand Prairie Library will hold its summer reading club May 30 through Aug. 8 with an 'Eighties' theme, library program administrator Ashley Wyche said on the city's community program.
"So our big kickoff is going to be May 30, Saturday, May 30 from 10AM to noon," Wyche said, inviting families to the main library where staff will transform the space into an eighties-inspired mall. The program will use the Beanstack app to log reading time and award badges and prizes: every five hours of reading earns a badge and a reward such as a free book, a treasure-chest item, or a coupon from community partners.
Wyche said the program is open to children, teens and adults and encourages both literacy retention over the summer and social engagement through library events.
