Garland Water Utilities honored with national environmental award

Mayor Dylan Hedrick read a proclamation recognizing Garland Water Utilities for its ‘‘direct use recycled water program’’ and named the utility as recipient of the 2026 National Environmental Achievement Award in the community leadership category.
"What a great honor this is to receive this award, for the city of Garland," said Caleb Butler, Duck Creek plant manager for the water utility’s wastewater division. Butler praised the utility’s teams for day-to-day reclaimed-water operations and said Garland’s reuse work supports regional sustainability.
The proclamation credited the program—established in 1999—with reducing freshwater demand, improving water quality and supporting the Lake Ray Hubbard watershed through a constructed wetland. The mayor encouraged residents to celebrate the utility’s efforts and called the award one of the highest recognitions in the clean-water sector.
