Mayor Dylan Hedrick opened Garland's April 21 council meeting by proclaiming Volunteer Appreciation Week and inviting Volunteer Garland to the dais to mark the city’s spring volunteer push.
"This week, we celebrate Volunteer Appreciation Week, a time to recognize the people whose service shapes and supports our community," said Caitlin Godfrey, Volunteer Specialist for Volunteer Garland, as she listed local civic groups and partners supporting the city’s volunteer programs. Godfrey thanked volunteers across the city for their service.
Josue Diaz, the city's volunteer coordinator, described a coming volunteer event and encouraged residents to sign up online. "I wanna do a mini commercial for people that wanna get involved," Diaz said, promoting the Duck Creek litter cleanup scheduled for Saturday, May 2, and directing listeners to volunteergarland.org for registration.
The mayor closed the segment by reiterating the city’s appreciation for volunteers and noting the breadth of groups involved, from Keep Garland Beautiful to the Garland Youth Council. The proclamation asks residents to join volunteer initiatives that the city says create "educational opportunities, job force skill development and meaningful partnerships."
