Bolton volunteer fire department reports record year with 548 emergency responses

At the Bolton Fire Commission meeting on Jan. 23, Chief Dixon told commissioners the department recorded a high volume of responses last year, noting, "The department has answered 61 emergency calls since December 12, 2016. This was a record year for emergency calls. The membership responded to 548 emergencies." He said those calls equated to more than 8,000 hours of volunteer service to the town.
Chief Dixon also outlined training investments that supported that response level: 46 training sessions and hands-on drills last year with over 1,500 logged training hours, plus several multi-week certification classes — four Firefighter 1, three Firefighter 2 and three EMT classes, each between about 180 and 210 hours. Commissioners recorded the numbers as they discussed department workload and volunteer capacity going into the 2017–2018 budget cycle.
