Marshall County Engineer Paul Geilenfeldt told residents on May 27, 2026 that surveying and right-of-way acquisition are prerequisites to construction on the 2600-mile portions of 260th Street and Ridge Road.
Geilenfeldt described the county's next steps: survey the corridor, determine where additional permanent easement is required (he named the north slope near the Ridge Road/260th Street intersection as one such area under review), and then proceed to construction. He said typical construction tasks will include replacing most driveway culverts to match new ditch grades, regrading ditches, reshaping driveways, raising intersections and crowns, installing cable guardrails where needed, and improving drainage.
On timing he said, "Construction could begin after July 1, 2026," and estimated the on-site work would take "approximately two to three weeks, weather depending." Geilenfeldt warned that some ditch slopes created by flattening terrain may not be mowable and that the county will attempt to acquire additional permanent easement where necessary to alter slopes.
The Board and staff emphasized communication with residents while work is planned and executed. No funding amounts, contractor selection, or formal easement authorization were approved at the special meeting; those items remain future administrative steps.
