At the Nov. 14 meeting WLTA President Matt Sigall and classroom staff addressed the board about program changes resulting from the 2024-25 budget.
Superintendent Parkhurst introduced the item, noting the district asked teachers for information on program changes tied to shared positions. Mr. Matt Sigall (WLTA president), Ms. Jennifer Long (art teacher) and Ms. Sarah Loomis (librarian/media specialist) described impacts on instruction and student access resulting from shared roles — specifically a shared school resource officer, a shared art teacher and a shared library/media specialist between North Street School and South Elementary School. The presenters discussed operational challenges and effects on students’ time with specialists but the minutes record only that a brief discussion was held; no formal board action on staffing assignments was taken at that meeting.
The board heard examples of the effects and indicated they would include updates on previously approved items in future meetings, per a later suggestion to add an 'Old Business' style agenda item.
