Board approves raise for substitute teachers to $150 per day effective Jan. 1, 2025

Human Resources Director Robert Stacy recommended the Board raise the substitute-teacher daily rate to $150 beginning Jan. 1, 2025, citing statewide minimum-wage increases and difficulties filling vacancies at the current $120 daily rate.
Stacy said the current district rate had been roughly equivalent to just above minimum wage and noted survey results from other districts showing an average daily rate of about $134 with a range from $115 to $200. "He recommended that the Board approve an increase in the daily rate for Substitute Teachers to $150 per day," Stacy said.
Board members discussed recruitment pressures and the impact on classroom coverage when substitutes are unavailable. The Board moved (Cutler), seconded (Gragnolati), and passed the recommendation unanimously.
The adjustment takes effect Jan. 1, 2025; the district said it will monitor recruitment and any fiscal impacts on the FY25-26 budget.
