Chair Alan Jaques opened discussion on elected officials' pay during the Administration Committee meeting on March 5, 2026, where members considered several salary scenarios for the sheriff and clerk of court.
Committee member Mark Liebaert moved to approve the second sheriff salary option and Committee member Rosemary Lear seconded. The measure calls for a 9.5% overall increase over four years (5% for 2027, 2.5% for 2028, 1% for 2029 and 1% for 2030) and was referred to the Douglas County Board after a roll call vote that passed 6–yes, 3–no. Voting no were Chair Alan Jaques, Bill Fennessey and Randy Skowlund.
The committee record notes staff discussion about paygrades and the intent to position the sheriff's salary above the chief deputy paygrade. Matt Izzard and Michelle Wick spoke during the salary review about concerns with the presented options; those remarks were part of the committee's deliberations prior to the vote.
The salary resolution will next appear on the County Board agenda for final approval and implementation scheduling. No implementation date beyond the year-by-year increases listed in the approved option was specified in committee documents.
