The Douglas County Forest, Parks & Recreation Committee on Feb. 23 approved a request from North Country Trail Races to hold its second 10k/20k fundraiser on Douglas County Wildlife Area property on April 18, 2026. The meeting packet included a race route and a note that the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WDNR) had already granted approval.
Motion records show the formal action: "Motion by Cummings, second Baker, to approve request from North Country Trail Races to use County Forest land in the Douglas County Wildlife Area for 10k/20k Run Fundraiser Event with proof of liability insurance provided to the County." The committee carried the motion. The approval is conditional on the race organizers providing proof of general liability insurance to the county prior to the event.
The committee took the vote after departmental updates and a short procedural suspension of rules to take up listed agenda items. Committee Chair Mark Liebaert and members recorded attendance for the meeting, and staff noted the WDNR approval in the packet materials. The item will be implemented under standard event permitting and insurance requirements for county forest events.
