Board approves $454,270.67 state reallocation for Armory site; pavilion to include ice rink and expanded kitchen

The Calvert County Board of Commissioners on March 11 approved a budget amendment (BA 2025-000310) allocating an additional $454,270.67 in Rural Maryland Economic Development funds to the Armory site development in Prince Frederick Town Center. Department of Economic Development staff said the reallocation will support adding an ice rink and expanding the pavilion's commercial kitchen and design features.
"I have here a check for, forward funding of, $454,270.67," John Hartline, executive director of the Tri-County Council for Southern Maryland, told the commissioners when he presented the award and the regional reallocation. Director Oberg and staff said the Armory project had prior council contributions totaling about $2,060,000; the new allocation increases the project's overall funding to more than $2 million.
With no members of the public signed to comment, the board closed the record on the advertised public hearing and voted to adopt the resolution and budget amendment. The motion to close the record and approve the budget amendment was moved and seconded on the record and passed without objection. Commissioners said staff diligence and inter-county coordination made the funding possible; staff will return with scheduling and next steps for permitting and a planned groundbreaking.
