Several Lusby residents addressed the Planning Commission during public comment to oppose recent approvals and seek more public input on town planning decisions. Sean McGuire, speaking for Save Lusby, said the nonprofit filed an appeal of the approved Leslie Villas apartment project (described in public comment as a more than 200‑unit development on roughly 30 acres) and that a petition to dismiss their appeal was denied, allowing their appeal to proceed.
McGuire urged community members to review materials at savelusby.com and said the organization is actively pursuing the appeal to halt what it described as overdevelopment. Other residents raised concerns about the approval of an AutoZone and questioned whether the county was prioritizing projects that match community needs, such as a gym or other unique businesses, rather than duplicative retail.
