Planning commission approves 100‑foot facade for Lusby AutoZone

Planner Jessica Catano presented the Lusby Architectural Review Committee (LARC) case 202402 for a proposed AutoZone at 11749 H G Truman Road (Tax Map 42 Parcel 111) in the Lusby Commons shopping center and recommended approving a facade length extension to 100 feet due to design treatments that included awnings, masonry features and display windows.
Catano told commissioners staff "finds the proposal consistent with the Lusby Town Center design guidelines with the exception of the facade length requirement" and noted the Lusby ordinance limits facade length to 50 feet unless the commission grants an extension under four conditions. The proposal showed 76% ground‑floor activation, an 8‑foot sidewalk tying into the existing pedestrian network, and other design elements that staff said met the ordinance conditions.
A commissioner moved to approve the application as recommended by staff; after a second the chair called the voice vote and announced, "Passes 7 to nothing." The commission therefore approved the facade extension and the application as presented.
